A community devoted to the dazzling visionary Eiko Ishioka: costume artist, scenic designer, creative director, visual design virtuoso, genius.

From the bio of her book, Eiko On Stage:

Eiko Ishioka's internationally renowned designs have been exhibited around the world and are included in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York. After studying design at the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music, Eiko began her career with groundbreaking print and TV advertising campaigns in her native Japan. Her first book, Eiko by Eiko, quickly became a style-world must-have and is now a treasured collector's item.

Since the mid eighties, Eiko has taken a variety of roles, from scenic designer to creative director, in multi-million dollar projects for theater, film, television, opera, books, records, and museum installations. She has worked with artists as diverse as Miles Davis and Leni Riefenstahl. Among her honors are an Acadamy Award (for Bram Stoker's Dracula), a Grammy (for the album Tutu), a Cannes Film Festival Special Award (for Mishima), a Tony nomination (for M. Butterfly), and a laureateship in the New York Art Directors' Club Hall of Fame. She lives in New York City.
